October 09, 2016
Ronald Stewart, 76, passed away on October 9, 2016. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 7, 1940, to Merle and Loal Stewart.
Ron humbly served his country with the United States Marine Corps for three years and then continued his service with the Marine Corps Reserve. He was a Polk County Deputy Sheriff for many years until his retirement in 1997. Having been an avid supporter of the Hawkeyes, Ron was proud to have the detail of Director of Football Security for the Iowa Hawkeyes for 32 years, retiring in 2014.
Ron was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured his family and their time spent together. When he wasn’t with his family or cheering on the Hawkeyes, Ron enjoyed a day on the water fishing.
Ron is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cara; children, Amy Stewart Hunt and Don Quijano; grandson, Andrew Hunt; and his siblings, William (Barbara) Stewart and Judith (Larry) Lee. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

CaraI please know how very sorry I am for your loss. There is no class, no book, not even any advice from those of us who have gone through this before, that will prepare anyone to lose a loved one. Just know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I know how very proud you must have been of Ron, and may the memories you have of him be treasures that can give you comfort.

To His Family: Ron was a cousin of my cousins Chuck, Ken, & Don, and so I've known him all his young life. I was so impressed to find him as two coaches' guardian & PR man. I last met him at his Aunt Agnes' funeral, and had hoped to have seen him again many more times in the future. We all will miss him and the respected and respectful man he became.

Ron has been in our lives since 1966. Even after moving from DM our travels back to Iowa, or meeting he and Cara in Florida or Illinois. Like the beautiful DM Capital he was always there...what a void he will leave for us.

Cara, Amy, Don, I sit here and bawl like a baby. I can't imagine how you all must feel. There is no doubt about how he loved his family. He was very fortunate to have each of you in his life as you each were fortunate to have had him with you. So hard to do this. The only thing I can say is I am so sorry. And talk to God. He will always be there for us. Semper Fi, Cous , Guard Those Streets, Brother. I'll relieve you when called.
