Maxine Mae Cunningham, age 89, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12th at Easton Baptist Church, 5075 Easton Blvd, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13th, also at the church, followed by burial at Berwick Cemetery.

Maxine Mae Marean was born October 18, 1926 at the home of Elmer and Clarena Kimm Marean in rural Guthrie County, Iowa. She attended country schools and graduated from Guthrie Center High School. In 1944, she moved to Des Moines and has lived there since then.

On July 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donal Everett Cunningham. They were married nearly 58 years before his death on May 6, 2003. Maxine worked in the printing department at Look Magazine and for the State of Iowa until retiring in 1990. She was a member of Easton Baptist Church. She accepted Christ as her savior in July 1948. Maxine enjoyed reading her Bible and doing pencil word puzzles.

Donal and Maxine were the parents of six children, all of whom survive her: Arthur (Saundra) Cunningham, Daniel Cunningham, Cecelia Purcell, Benita (Don) Puck, David Cunningham, and Julie Hoffman. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Martha Gittens, Donald (Pauline) Marean, Irene (Dennis) Foshe, Marjorie (Galen) Kessler, and Joyce Shaffer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donal; her parents; siblings, Norma Boyd, Robert Marean, and Allen Marean; son-in-law, Bob Purcell; one grandson; and three great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Easton Baptist Church (Faith Promise Missions) or Taylor House Hospice.
