Donal Eugene Brandt

Donal Eugene Brandt, 83, was born October 9, 1932 in St. Charles, Iowa, the son of Laura (Smith) and Walter Brandt. He passed away peacefully Saturday, October 1, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
After graduation from high school, Donal proudly served his country as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He started his career at Sutherland Lumber Company in Des Moines. Donal then went to work at Consumers Supply Company, which he eventually owned. At retirement, he worked for the Pennzoil Company. After retiring from the Pennzoil Company, he worked for Willis Auto Campus for 16 years.
Donal is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Brandt; children, David (Nancy) Brandt of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Brandt-Schaefer of Johnston, Bob (Cindy) Brandt of Urbandale and Sue Brandt of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Michael (Sara) Brandt, Sarah (Matt) DuMont, Max Schaefer, Amara Darboh and Ryan Rittman; great-grandchildren, Claire DuMont, Evan DuMont, Caitlin Brandt and Melanie Brandt; sister, Nadene WeMott of McKinney, Texas; many nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends, and his faithful companion, Polly. Donal was preceded in death by his parents, Laura Black and Walter Brandt.
The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles, Iowa.

He was always Mr. Brandt to me. I worked for him in the mid 70's at Consumers Supply. My Mom passed during that time and Mr. & Mrs Brandt came to her funeral. He was so kind and generous, giving me time off with my Mom. Rest in Peace Mr. Brandt, Sympathies to his family.

We have lost a very loving and generous soul. Gary and I are so blessed to be a part of his family. I know in my heart that my Dad was waiting to greet him in Heaven with a grin, hug and handshake. We love you all and wish you peace and comfort at this sad time.
