Larry Sager

Larry V. Sager, 84, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center.
Larry was born July 30, 1932 in Seymour, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, earning two Purple Hearts. Larry retired from the Army in 1970. After retirement, he worked nearly 20 years in the Des Moines area for the U.S. Postal Service.
Larry is survived by his wife, DiAnne Sager; sons, Denison (Jennifer) Sager, Travis (Renee) Sager, William “Bill” Sager and Robert “Bob” (Michelle) Sager; grandchildren, Brady Sager, Denali Sager, Kenai Sager, Robert II, Sheree Spears, John “Jack” and Dayna; great-grandson, Nathan; brother, Mark Sager; sister, Janet Thomas; sister-in-law, Betty Sager; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Sager; mother, Esther Darrah Sager-McMurry-Frank; step-fathers, Loy McMurry and Eldred Frank; brothers, William (Donna) Sager, Elza (LuEtta) Sager and Kenneth “Jack” (Lorraine) Sager; sister-in-law, Shirley; brother-in-law, Robert Thomas; and his sister, Julia “Judy” (Charles) Sullivan.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, Illinois. A memorial celebration will be held at Des Moines Seventh-day Adventist Church at a later date.
