Sherry Sanford

Sherry Marie Sanford, 77, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.

Sherry was born January 10, 1939 in Atlantic, Iowa. She graduated valedictorian from North High School in 1957. On February 7, 1959, she married Ron Sanford. Sherry retired from Sanford Opticians in 2001, where she had been the office manager for 19 years. She enjoyed raising her family, spending time with her grandchildren and being a caregiver to many. She also loved to shop.

Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ron; children, Jodi Carter, Julie Partee, John (Cindy Caligiuri) Sanford and Jay (Kelly) Sanford; grandchildren, Sean, Sara (Joseph) Pontious, Ashley, Heather (Terry), Raymond, John, Travis, Troy, Makayla and Jaida; great-grandchildren, Diamond, Drue, Autumn, Thayne, Hayley, Mia and Paislee; siblings, Kay (Ron) Gwinn and David Wineinger; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Wineinger.

The family will greet friends Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Sherry’s Life at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. She will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter at 2 p.m. Thursday.
