Jeanette Kay Burkhead-Simmons, 65, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at her home in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Jeanette was born July 3, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa. Her grandkids were her joy and the light of her life. She loved family get-togethers and watching her favorite TV programs.
Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Christina St. John; her grandchildren, Alyse Simmons and Jade St. John; her siblings, Diane (Eddy) Willett and Frank Burkhead; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosemary and Benjamin Burkhead.

Jeanette was a good friend when I first moved to Des Moines. She helped me learn to ride a bike and often loaned one to me to go for neighborhood rides. She taught me a few dance moves and shared a ride with me my first year of high school. Although we drifted apart, I have very fond memories of Jeanette and am thankful to her for my smooth transition after moving from a small Iowa farm to Des Moines. She always had a smile and a friendly welcome. I'm a better person for having known her. My condolences for all that loved her.
