Frank Marvin Payne was born April 20, 1938, in Webster City, Iowa, son of Evelyn (Baer) Payne and Marvin Payne (Freddie). He passed away September 7, 2016, in Des Moines. His various places of employment included, Lincoln National Life Insurance, Sgt. Deputy Sheriff, Polk County, Chief of Security at Delevan Corp., Claims Adjuster for Custard Insurance, and he retired as the Lead Criminal Investigator for the Polk County Defenders Office, State of Iowa. He was an electrical contractor for 50 years. Frank was an Eagle Scout and a member of both the NRA and the Des Moines Power Boat Club.

Frank’s hobbies included a love for firearms and he was a grandmaster marksmen. He also loved cameras, boats and stereo equipment. Frank’s love of water was passed to his children. He was best known for making up jokes and telling really, really long stories. Frank dearly loved his family.

Frank is survived by his 8 children, Natalie Payne (Cindy), Bernie Payne, Gisele Payne (George), Annette Gray (Troy), Benita Gearhart, Vincent Payne (Kelli), Darrell Payne (Tammie), and Warren Payne; 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sharon (Payne) Townsend and John Payne; sister-in-law, Jan Payne and his brother Larry’s children, Aaron and Kelly. He is preceded in death by his son, Gregory; parents; and brother, Larry.

Dad, we love and miss you. Please give everyone a hug for us until we see you all again.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines with services beginning at 12:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery.
