Kenneth G. Shufelt, 93, son of Leslie and Theresa (Justin) Shufelt passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016. Ken was born June 20, 1923 in Tripoli, Iowa and was baptized at the Little Brown Church with two great-grandmothers as sponsors. At an early age, the family moved to Fredericksburg, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1941. He then served approximately three years overseas with the 8th Air Force in WW2. After this he attended the American Institute of Business and received a degree in Accounting. He was immediately employed by Eagle Iron Works for thirty years, leaving as Treasurer of the company. After a short employment with a local bank, he spent ten and a half years in the Polk County Recorder’s office retiring as First Deputy. He then found retirement to be boring so he accepted part-time work in the Polk County Assessor’s office for ten and a half years. Volunteer work then followed. He was a member of the Lutheran church and had a life-time certificate from the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his sister, Lois (James) Denner, Waverly, IA; nephew, Randy (Sue) Denner, Eldridge, IA; nieces, Barbara (Robert) Proborsky, Port Charlotte, FL, Linda (Scott) Peters, Shellsburg, IA, Patty Denner, Eldridge, IA, Becky Gardner, Cleveland, OH; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Special friends are Patrick and Nina Zaimes, Karin Wheeler and Jim and Betty McCarl. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret; and brother-in-law, Russell Gardner.

Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10:00 am. Family and friends will gather following the service. Private burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Iowa.
