I worked with this beautiful lady in the 90s and every time I returned home for a visit, I'd go into Fareway so I could say hi to those folks who were still there whom I remembered. Even though I had been gone for some time, Mary always remembered me. She had such a great smile and character. She will be missed for a very long time. She now has those beautiful wings.

We were struck speechless with the loss of "Miss Mary". Our children worked with her for more than 4 years. We are so sorry for your loss. There was no one else like her, she will be missed. I always looked forward to her smile. Like many others I would wait just to get in her line and offer her a heartfelt greeting. I always looked forward to seeing her .The store will never be the same without her.

Haven't lived in Des Moines for years but I remember this sweet lady. I would switch lines at Fareway just so I could get in "Mary's" line. The world has lost a very sweet, kind, loving woman. Condolences and prayers to her family.

Grandma Mary, You may not have been my actual grandma, but I loved you just the same. You are beautiful inside and out. I will always cherish the memories I have of sitting around your kitchen table talking for hours, our lunch dates to Prairie Meadows, and family holidays. You helped me through some of the toughest parts of my life so far. Your hugs and senses of humor were so refreshing, and you outlook on life was admirable. Love you to the moon and back grandma!

Mary cared about so many and was a friend to all. I don't believe she ever met a stranger. Fareway will never be the same. She was always a bright spot in the store and we'll respected. Deep sympathy to all family and friends.
