Vivian E. Willis, 86, of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Trinity Center in Des Moines.

Vivian was born in Randall, Iowa on December 4, 1929. She was the daughter of Hazel and Imbert Millang. After graduating from high school, she attended St. Olaf College for one year and then started her nurse’s training at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She received her RN degree and began her nursing career at the hospital in Jefferson, Iowa. She later worked in the Des Moines area, including a doctor’s office, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, and retiring from Wesley Acres.

On December 27, 1959, she married Robert Willis and became step-mom to his four children. She was an active member of Capital Hill Lutheran Church. She enjoyed flower gardens, needlework, reading, and family.

Vivian is survived by her spouse, Robert Willis; four step-children, Norman (Charlotte) Willis, Gail (Iven) Brush, Alane Houck, and Arnold (Carol) Willis; sister, Margaret Satre; nephews, Mark Satre and Jeff (Leslie) Satre; nieces, Jennifer (Rusty) Barnes and Nancy Cahill; eleven great nieces and nephews; seven great great nieces and nephews; eight step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, also at Hamilton’s, followed by burial at the Randall, Iowa Cemetery.
