Howard Clement

Howard E. Clement, 94, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at Courtyard Estates in Pleasant Hill.

Howard was born June 13, 1922 in Des Moines to Roy and Edna (Jameson) Clement. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Howard proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from Thorne Trucking where he had been a truck driver for many years.

Howard is survived by his children, Kevin (Laura) Clement, Brenda (Dan) Garrett, Barry (Kate) Clement and Karen (Jim) Berkland; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Burchett Clement; his parents; daughter, Christina Kosobucki; brother, Harold Clement; and brother-in-law, Emery Burchett.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. A service will follow visitation starting at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Wapello, Iowa.
