I was extremely sad to hear of Uncle Elmer's passing. I knew he was in a care facility on the east side of Des Moines when my mom passed away in 2010, but had been unable to determine where. I would have visited had I know.

Elmer was a gentle spirit in this world. When he was younger, in his 60's,he was known as 'the flag man" at the old HyVee on the hill on the east side of Des Moines, passing out American flags to passers by. As a resident of Union Park, he handed out small flag lapel pins around the holidays. He had a good dry sense of humor, and was a man of few words. "I like that!" was as verbose as he got most times. He had an endearing quality and a stubborn streak as well. It was an honor to know and serve Elmer. He will be missed. So to him I say the words he told me many days as I left the building - "see ya old buddy!".

We all love Elmer so very much. He was the sweetest man, he will be greatly missed by his friends here at Union Park Health Services. He had the nicest smile and he loved his Drake Bulldogs! He will always be in our hearts.
