Christopher Poulson
August 13, 2016
Christopher Lee Poulson, 51, was born December 27, 1964 and passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family Saturday, August 13, 2016 after a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer.
Chris graduated from Southeast Polk in 1983. He was employed as a Diesel mechanic for the last 14 years at Peterbilt in Altoona until his health no longer allowed him to work. Chris was a 25 year member of the Bondurant Fire Dept with 23 as Deputy Chief and treasured the brotherhood and many friendships he made there. Chris had a passion for racing and was the Pit Road Captain for the F.A.S.T team at the Iowa Speedway since 2006.
Chris met the love of his life, Kate, and was blessed to be married Sept 27, 2014 in which they shared 4 years together. He was a family man and enjoyed special time spent at family get-togethers with his entire family. Chris had a strong faith and was a member of Cross Point Family Church of Bondurant. He also enjoyed watching Nascar races, John Wayne movies, gaming with his 3 gamer friends, and just lounging watching a movie with his furbaby Sassy.
Chris lit up a room as soon as he walked in. He never met a stranger and he had a heart of gold. Chris had such a zest for life and lived every moment to its fullest. He will be greatly missed and loved by all of those who were blessed to have known him.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Kate Poulson; his parents, Gary and Linda Poulson; his sister, Kym (Steve) Den Hartog and their son, Isaac; his step-children whom he loved as his own, Cody (Anthony) Kintz and their children James and Sidni, Ryan Vaughn, Devan (Ian) Henry, Judden Flanery and Ashley Flanery; his “fur-baby” Sassy; other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Denver and Sophie Byal and Edith and Pete Wagner.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW in Altoona, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the church. Following the service, we will go in procession with Chris to the Bondurant Fire Station where he will receive his “Last Call.”
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be distributed among numerous charities in loving memory of Chris. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com

We did not really know Chris but from all we have read and heard from other relatives he was a really good man . We just never get back to Iowa much anymore but sure glad I got to see Gary a couple of years ago. Cindy and I offer our prayers as Chris reaches his heavenly resting spot. Our condolences to the family.

I had the honor of meeting this man when I was going through Firefighter I & 2 and Haz-Mat Ops. We had our skill sessions at Bondurant Fire Department. He helped a lot of us with skills and answered any questions we had. Some of us were brand new to firefighting and were a little nervous, but he was patient and gave clear directions and reassurance. You could tell he was highly respected at the station. RIP Deputy Chief Poulson. Sending prayers to your family.

Chris was one of the strongest, most well loved people I've ever known! He touched so many lives and taught the meaning of life and love! He and Kate had the strongest bond, she showed so much strength and I'm sure Chris treasured every moment of his time with her! Prayers to Kate, Gary and Linda and his sister Kym and all his friends and Firefighters that are his family as well!
