Jimi Strychnine:
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Jimi lived his life exactly the way he wanted to and won his courageous battle against cancer on Sunday, August 7, 2016.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. The celebration will continue at Lefty’s Live Music, 2307 University Avenue, Des Moines on Friday, August 12, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and going until closing time. Come with stories to tell or songs to sing.
Jimi was born May 12, 1959 in Logansport, Indiana to Thomas Sr. and Aura (Ramos) Scribner. He served in the U. S. Army from 1978 to 1982. Jimi was a fixture in the local music scene and touched the lives of so many people. He was a singer and a soundman, and was named an honorary member of the band, Calous. He then returned to being a chef, which was always his first love. He was the head chef at Streetcar 209 (formerly House of Bricks.) Jimi had the gift of making people feel loved and putting people at ease. There wasn’t anyone he met that didn’t receive a smile and a hello. Even if he didn’t know you well, he would always remember your name, and if he did know you well, you were loved and respected like family. His passing has left a void in the lives of his family and friends, and yet his impact on everyone he met will continue to tell his story.
He is survived by his children, James Jr., Aleasha (Nick) Keubler, and Avery Scribner; grandchildren, Ryan Munoz, Hunter Keubler, Emersyn Keubler, Payten Clark, and Avaya Clark; father, Thomas H. Scribner Sr.; siblings, Thomas H. (Sharon) Scribner Jr., Charles D. Scribner, and Theresa (Ralph) Scribner; nieces and nephew, Natasha L. Smith, Shawn M. Scribner, and Kaylee Scribner; a host of great nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Jimi was preceded in death by his mother, Aura Scribner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to help with medical and funeral expenses.

Jimi, you were a kind, gentle soul who made us feel like we were visiting an old friend every time we performed at the House of Bricks. You were enjoyed and will be sorely missed.
