Sherri Gumm
Johnston, Iowa

Sherri Gumm’s spirit is now in the presence of God. She passed peacefully at home with family on August 1st, 2016.

Sherri Miller was born in Chicago on July 20, 1958 to Claybourne and Nenie Miller. She graduated high school in 1976. While working in Chicago during the summer months, she met Aaron Gumm who she later married. They moved to Missoula Montana to attend college where she pursued a career in nursing, a profession that she was most passionate about. Sherri had two children, Shaoah Miller & Tabari Miller, and dedicated her life to caring for them while giving them the best life possible.

Sherri relocated in 1992 to Des Moines Iowa. She worked as a nurse at Luther Care Services-Trinity for over 20 years. Sherri’s management style influenced her staff to provide the best care for each patient with no exception. She expected the same from those she managed that she gave herself. Her passion was caring for her patients and their families. Her efforts and achievements were immeasurable and will never be forgotten.

Sherri’s interest included reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, and family gatherings. She was a connoisseur of margaritas and Mexican food, with a side of Red Lobster. She most enjoyed spending time with her sons and grandsons. Sherri was loved by all. Family, friends, coworkers and clients were all touched by her kindness.

Sherri faced and overcame many health challenges and always refused to give up without a fight. Sherri’s strength was tested as she fought through her recent illness. She continued to confront it with the same tenacity that she used in caring for her patients. Many were amazed at her endurance in her battle to overcome her condition. She inspired and influenced all of us by her courage and determination.

Sherri leaves to mourn two loving sons, Shaoah (Sammi) and Tabari (Tashika); two grandsons, Shaoah Jr, and Jaelen; three sisters, Beverly, Joanne, and Marilyn; two brothers, Harvey (Anita), and Clay (Angela); several brothers and sisters-in laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sherri was preceded in death by both her parents, sister Nancy and her brother Alvin.

She will always be missed and remembered by all of us. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
