James L. Anderson, age 79, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his home in Des Moines.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. James will be interred at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

James was born January 4, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ralph and Earla (McGrew) Anderson.

James served in the U. S. Army earning the rank of Green Beret. In his free time he enjoyed playing poker and watching the Cubs and Iowa Football. James loved to ride his motorcycle that he owned for 50 years. Above all, he cherished time spent watching his grandchildren play sports.

James is survived by his children, Helle (Katherine) Anderson, Tina Anderson, and Andy Anderson; his two brothers, Tom and Mike; and 6 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
