I was Ray's supervisor at the state of Iowa DHS. I was getting out of the hospital when Ray passed away and was saddened to hear of his passing. Over the years he and I would have work related discussions by phone and in person. I knew he was fond of model railroads and we sometimes spoke of that. He was a gentle soul and will be missed.

Ive never had an opportunity to meet Ray, but he and I have had a number of conversations over the phone in the wee hours of the morning. Ive worked for DHS since 1993 and the System that I was responsible for was an On-Call System. On-Call requires a person to be available from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day. Ray was a night-shift operator and during the past years, Ray has woke me up numerous times. He was always pleasant, helpful and answered questions about the problems that brought the System to a halt. Ray had many DHS Systems that he was responsible for during his shift. Ray was one of my favorite operators He did a really good job and he will be missed.
