Jon Hunt
July 19, 2016
Jon L. Hunt was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on July 19th, 2016. He was greeted into Paradise by his parents Lester and Esther, his baby brother, a grandson Nathaniel Cornelius, in-laws William and Margaret Kearns, and many other family and friends.
Jon was born in Glenwood, Iowa on October 26th, 1939 to Lester and Esther Hunt. He attended Glenwood High School where he met his lifetime sweetheart, Julia Kearns. After graduation, Jon joined the Air Force Reserves. Upon returning home from his service, he married Julia in the spring of 1959 and started his career as an optician. In the following years, Jon and Julia were blessed with three children; Marty, Lori, and Brad. Known for his strong faith and love of ministry, Jon served as a pastor in many different Community of Christ congregations, where he was eventually called to the office of Evangelist touching many with his testimonies.
Jon also had a love for magic and chemistry, which he often enjoyed sharing with his family as well as bringing it into his ministry. Jon was a kid at heart, his sense of humor and devotion to his family, friends, and church are just some of the things Jon will be remembered for many years to come. Jon never looked for praises and was never one to boast. The memories that he has given us we will cherish forever.
Jon is survived by his wife, Julia; son Marty (Jennifer) Hunt; daughter Lori (Joel) Whelchel; son Brad (Kristin) Hunt; his sister Kay (Wen) Dunsdon; seven grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Jon’s family for later designation. Flowers may be sent to either Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, located at 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50313, or to the Community of Christ Church in West Des Moines, located at 4504 Ashworth Road.
