Mary Anita Marean, 84, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016.
There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, 1271 East 9th Street, Des Moines followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery.
Mary was born October 13, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to Henry and Josephine (Gutierrez) Mora. She was an East High Alumni, Class of 1950. Mary retired from UnityPoint Health Care after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of LULAC Council 307 and American Legion Auxiliary 731 where she held many positions and was studying to become a chaplain. Mary was very active in her church, Our Lady of the Americas and volunteered at election polls.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a very outgoing, strong person who was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She enjoyed traveling and one of her favorite places to visit was Kansas City.
Mary is survived by her children, Kathleen (Dan) Mongar, Elizabeth (Dana) Mongar, and John Marean; grandchildren, Jennifer Kuhns, Jason Mongar, Denise (Jason) Doerhoff, and Nicholas Mongar; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Mongar, Leland Doerhoff, and Declan Doerhoff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Marean; parents, Henry and Josephine Mora; and her great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Rose.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Auxiliary 731 or Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church.

Since receiving the call of Mary's passing. l awake each day, can it be true?
My cousin an activist so involved in church, veterans, & social affairs.
