Edna Tiernan
July 07, 2016
On July 7, 2016, Edna laced up her golf shoes and left her earthly limitations to go play the luxurious fairways in heaven. Born Oct 8, 1930 in Paducah, KY to John Edward Davis and Muriel Lavonia Troutman, she graduated from Roosevelt High School in Mitchellville, IA in 1947, married Robert Wayne Dickey and introduced two children, Ronald Wayne and Laurie Lee, to the world. She retired her management position with Preferred Risk Insurance Company (GuideOne) not long after her marriage to John Patrick (Jack) Tiernan.
A head strong and independent woman, she believed in hard work and was known to have rattled a few cages along life’s journey. Family includes: son, Ron and his wife Pat (Barton) of Altoona, IA; daughter, Laurie (Gary) McLain of Altoona, IA; granddaughters Amber (Brian) Burke of Pleasant Hill, IA and Alison (Kyle) Hansen of Altoona, IA; grandson Justin (Stacey) McLain of Indianola, IA; granddaughter Karline McLain of Lewisburg, PA; 5 great-grandsons (Chase Burke, Leyton Hansen, Chase McLain, Chance McLain, Curran McLain) and 3 great-granddaughters (Casey Burke, Everlee Hansen, Charley McLain). She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wayne Dickey and Jack Tiernan, and her beloved dogs, Molly, Lindy and Molly II, whose ashes will accompany her to her final resting place.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Shores in Pleasant Hill and Suncrest Hospice in West Des Moines for their loving care.
Per her wishes, her body will be cremated followed by a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. Online condolences and memories may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Laurie and Ron, I am so sorry to learn of the passing of your mom. Having grown up in the Mitchellville community and often babysitting with both of you (!), I knew your parents to be good community members. Your mom, especially, was fun-loving and full of spunk! Whenever I would visit my mother, Artis Fenimore, and drive by that little house on the north edge of town where you lived, I would remember all of you. It is never easy to have to let go of a beloved parent. My thoughts, good memories, and prayers are with you.
