Wilma Jean Cunningham, 83, passed away at her home on July 5th, 2016. She loved cooking and baking, shopping at Walmart, fishing, square dancing, and was very active. Wilma lived on Lake Ponderosa where she enjoyed playing card games and Yahtzee, and watched her favorite show “Let’s Make a Deal”. Her other favorite shows were especially on the Hallmark channel. Wilma was a very good caregiver to her husband Gene, who she married on October 6, 1951.
She is survived by her sons, Rick (Sandy) Cunningham of Grimes, and Perry (Teresa) Cunningham of Des Moines; grandchildren, David (Taunya) Cunningham of Indianola, Wesley (Samantha) Cunningham of Earling, Melissa Wheeler of Des Moines, Jason McDonnell of Des Moines, Kimberly Cunningham of Des Moines, Eric Cunningham of Des Moines, Bradley (Tanya) Cunningham of Des Moines, Kimberly Huston of Grimes, and Chad Erickson of Pleasant Hill; and twelve great grandchildren; her siblings, LaVonne, Harold, Marge, John, Darrell, Jerry, and Kathy; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Gene; her daughter Pam; her siblings Wayne, Vernon, Kenneth, Lowell, Carol, and Neva.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9th, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. The visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the same location.

Enjoyed reading the nice tribute to Wilma and learning about all of the things she loved to do. You have so many wonderful memories to hang on to!

Wilma was an extremely dependable helpful smile at Hy-Vee. She was hard-working, honest and kind. Customers would often "wait" a little extra just to connect with their favorite checker, Wilma. A very special lady with a heart of gold.
