Rodger R. Cory
July 05, 2016
Rodger Ronald Cory (75) passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held in Altoona at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 9 at Lutheran Church of the Cross and will be immediately followed by a reception at Haines Park.
Rodger was born at home in Cambridge, IA on July 14, 1940 and graduated from Altoona High School in 1958. He and his wife, Mary Ann Cory, were married 57 years and raised four wonderful daughters at their home in Altoona. They were blessed with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Rodger never shied away from hard work as he held jobs building the freeway (I-35) system and later owning and operating the former Altoona-Des Moines Heating and Cooling and Van Dyck Furnace Companies. While he was an avid hunter and fisherman, Rodger’s true joy was found in his family with whom he shared many backyard holiday gatherings.
He was highly skilled at crafting sheet metal, stained glass, and mischief; he always got the job done. There was nothing he wasn’t willing to tackle as his many friends and family will attest.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary Ann; daughters Kimberly (Jerry) Wells, Keri (Adam) Jobe, Kelli Cory (Phillip); grandchildren Jered (Aimee) Wells, Jordan Wells, Kathryn (Joe) Timmerman, Karaline and Kristin Overton, and Desiree and Lauren Veigulis; and great-grandchildren Juniper, Durham, and Holland Wells and Kyli and Peighton Timmerman. Rodger was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Kathryn Cory, his daughter Kristie (Craig) Overton, and his sister Janet (Lew) Lamb. Surviving Rodger are his brother Rodney (Cindy) Cory and sister MarLynn (Vane) Overturff.

So sorry for your loss. Our hearts go out to the Cory family. I knew Rodger well earlier in my life. He was like an uncle to me and my sisters. He lived life large and was a true source of joy and friendship for my dad, LeRoy Liston. They had many, many great adventures together. Rodger made the world a better place for those around him with his bold fun loving presence. He will be missed for a short time until we all gather in the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3
