Gertrude Grimes

Gertrude Ann Grimes (her family knew her as "Dick") was born in Dunlap, MO on April 16, 1911. She was the youngest of six children born to Dr. and Mrs. Charles Thomas. When she was three years old, the family moved to Laredo, MO. Gertrude came to know the Lord as Savior at an early age when she attended the Baptist Church in Laredo, MO. She married Codey E. Grimes on December 7, 1935, and they moved to Iowa. He preceded her in death.
Gertrude is survived by two children, Tom of Cumming and Susan Steinick of Des Moines, six grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Prior to entering Polk City Nursing & Rehab in August, 1999, she was an active participant in Bondurant First Federated Church and loved the Young at Heart group. Gertrude was a homemaker and a loving mother who always put everyone else first. On November 9, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa, Gertrude went to be with the Lord, she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
