Mildred Irene (Milli) Hoskins was blessed with life on June 15, 1930 to parents, Elwood and Cora Crittenden Brown. God called her home on Sunday, June 12, 2016. She was born and raised in Mystic, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa. Milli was a kind, generous, god fearing woman, with a big heart and even bigger smile. She was well loved by family and friends. She was a great person with wit and humor. She took great pride in her work and was a retired Legal Secretary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, puzzles, cooking, singing, Law and Order and she loved the color blue. Milli also loved trees and beautiful flowers. Her favorite tree was the Catalpa, which blooms large white flowers in late spring. This was how she knew her birthday was near. She loved reciting her favorite poem, “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. Milli was the matriarch of the family and believed in tradition and family values.

Trees

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

- Joyce Kilmer
