Ruby Merical Leaming

Ruby Merical Leaming, 89, passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice due to pulmonary fibrosis.

Services will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Ruby was born February 8, 1927 in Adel, Iowa to Wes and Edna Merical. She graduated from Adel High School and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in the accounting office for over 36 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Pioneers and enjoyed spending time in her yard tending her flowers. She was talented at needlecraft and liked quilting, sewing, crocheting and embroidering towels.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Bill) Pratt and Carol Kruse; long-time companion, Jesse White; grandchildren, Jeff Pratt, Lisa (Sean) Neeley, Russ (Dara) Berry, Glen (Kim) Berry, and Jenny Speck; great-grandchildren, Cole, Hayden, Cruz, Cason, Hailey, Dustin, Quinton, Tristan, Kenzie, Kayden, Josh, Dakota, Druen, Matt, and several more; as well as numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Leaming; daughter, Kathy Leaming; four brothers; two sisters; and her parents.
