Service Details

Dee O’Donnell, 82, died Sunday, June 12th, 2016 with family by her side while at the Kavanagh House. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street from 4 to 8 PM with a Rosary Service at 7 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Thursday, June 16th at 10 AM with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Dee was born October 2, 1933 in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and then married the love of her life, Dan Sr., in April of 1951. She and Dan raised nine children in their sixty-one years of marriage. She is the matriarch of the O’Donnell and Friends Open that has raised over a million dollars for various charities in the Des Moines area; she spent a lifetime of caring for, and assisting, those in need. Dee was a devout Catholic that spiritually prepared herself for eternal life.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Mosely, Nurse Practitioner Jenn Crawford, Hospice Aides Catherine and Terri, and to all the nurses and staff at the Kavanagh House. Their kindness and dedication has helped a lot of people through this very difficult journey.

Delores is survived by her nine children and twenty-eight grandchildren: son, Daniel Jr. (Kris) with children, Ellen (Jesse) Ahrens, Ashley (John) Miller, and Ben (Amber); son James (Terrie) with children, Mindy (Cody Nour) and Tiffany (Davin) Holmes; son Dennis (Teri) with children, Michael (Allysa), Bryan (Tonja), Katie, Aron Reimers and Alyson Reimers; son Mark (Tonya) with children, Amanda (Evan) Jones and Ryan (Carolyn); son John (Rhonda) with children Shannon (Scott) Smith, Sean (Nicole), Shelby and Sydney.; daughter Mary Kay (Craig) Duede with children Erin (Kevin) Hixson, Matt, Megan, and Kelsey; daughter Mary Beth (Dave) Heddinger with children, Sarah (Thomas) Stadler, Jacob, and Mary Jess; son Gary (Sheila) with children, Stephanie, and Heather (Josh) Evans; son, Tim (Angela) with children, Bailey, Riley and Kalley. In addition, she is survived by twenty great-grandchildren with three additional on the way; as well as her sister-in-law Linda (Tom) Glas of Alcester, South Dakota, her sister Diane Fletcher of Arlington, Texas, brother Tom (Mary Alice) Daughenbaugh and sister Kathy (John) Bixler; numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dan Sr.; as well as parents, Floyd and Mary, a brother Jim, a sister Mary Prall and a brother Steve.
