Dorothy (Berkland) Magnani, born to Elmer C. Berkland and Dorothy Skeels Berkland on May 17, 1937. Passed after four bouts with cancer on June 9, 2016.
Dorothy grew up in Des Moines, Iowa attended schools in Des Moines. She worked at Hyland Potato Chip and Meredith Printing Co. Dorothy moved to Boone, worked at Sandler Built Homes, and Archway Cookies. She then moved to Macksburg, Iowa and opened Tony’s Bar and Grill. In her younger days she loved to fish, decorate, and do crafts. She loved time with family for the holidays and get togethers. Poker became a past time with good friends, and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed drinking beer and dancing to country music. Dorothy married (Italo) Tony Magnani on June 16, 1961.
I have five beautiful children that I love unconditionally, William (Sue) Polson III, Dorothy (Dee) Smart of Olathe, KS, Felecia (Michael) Burkhart of Des Moines, Chris Magnani of Woodward, and Rhonda Dean of Macksburg; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Hegland and Patricia Smith; sister-in-law, Alma Magnani; and aunt, Bertha Smith.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tony (Italo) Magnani; her parents; siblings, Richard, Deloris, Bobette, Margaret, David, Gloria, Rachel, Sandy, and Jerry.
Death is a heartache, but nobody can take your memories.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Family will greet friends on Monday, June 13, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice in Winterset in loving memory of Dorothy.

We are so sorry for your loss. She has left us with many good memories. One being fishing on the river bank at the Big Eddy reeling in catfish and telling it like it was. Dorothy thanks for your friendship and the memories. Prayers to family and friends .

It was a pleasure when Dorothy would come to my salon to do her hair. We had some interesting visits and she always made me chuckle.She was a funny lady.
