Sharon J. Choate
Des Moines
Sharon Choate, 73, passed away peacefully Monday, May 30, 2016 at Iowa Methodist surrounded by her family and friends.
Her life was dedicated to the happiness of her family. Our mom was truly born to be a grandmother. Not only to her own five grandsons, but many children throughout the years she met or cared for. When she found out her first grandchild was coming, she resigned from her job and started her journey to becoming the best grandmother five little boys would ever know. Nothing made her happier than to talk about her children and five special grandsons. All were by her side when she passed away. They referred to her as “Mimi,” “Sheba” and “Doll.” She ended every phone call with “bye baby.”
She also enjoyed Bingo, family get-togethers, being a member of St. Anthony’s Church and being a 1970’s mom, including: team mother, homeroom mother, PTA and clipping her coupons, earning her the name of “Jiffy mom.”
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ron Sr.; son, Ron “Jake” Choate (Greg Dehning); daughter, Shelley (Mike) Amodeo; special daughter, Linda Choate; and grandchildren, Joey, Jonathan (Kayla), Nick, Joe Joe and Dante in addition to many other “adopted grandchildren,” family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Rex Stodgel; sister, Patty Martin; and brother, Rex Jr.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 3 at the funeral home followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff in CCU at Iowa Methodist.

Shelley, I am so sorry to hear of Sheba's passing. She was one of few, who could "make me mind" when we were kids. Such fond memories of her at the softball diamonds and slumber parties and generally running the roads. She will be missed....

Shelley and family - we are so very sorry to hear about the loss of the wonderful, caring and loving Sharon. Your family has been a big part of ours and we will cherish the fond memories we have. Wonderful memories of daycare and Park Avenue are near and dear to our hearts. An amazing and loved woman will be greatly missed. The miles between us are great, but we still consider your crew family.
