Joseph Vincent Anania, 79, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Joseph was born March 5, 1937 in Des Moines to Michael and Catherine (Rand) Anania. He graduated from St. Anthony Catholic School, Dowling High School and studied two years in seminary. Joseph owned and operated J & A Insurance. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Society of Italian Americans. Joseph had a fondness for corvettes, especially red ones.
Joseph is survived by his long-time companion, Judy LaRonde; children, Kathleen Comito, Tom (Jodi) Anania and Don (Cecilia) Towers, Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley, Grace (Josh), Joseph (Nicole), Faith, Colleen, Trisha, Jason, Nicole, Taylor, Holly, Megan, Michael and Larissa; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mike Jr., Sam, Lou, Mike, Rose “Dolly”, Maryann and Phyllis.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, with a Knights of Columbus Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. and the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) or St. Anthony Catholic Church in loving memory of Joseph.

I am very sorry to learn of Joes passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Joe several years ago when he was my Insurance agent. Joe was very kind to me when my youngest Daughter was born..... he sent me Roses! So sorry for your loss.

I am extremely sorry to hear about Joe's passing, I had the honor of taking care of him when he was at Select Specialty Hospital. My prayers are with his family.
