Donnie Bolin
May 07, 2016
Donnie Ross Bolin, 62, passed away at home surrounded by his wife, mom, and four children on May 7, 2016. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.
Donnie was a very dedicated and hard worker. He was employed by Peter’s Construction, Newton, IA, Gordon Massman Construction, Moravia, IA and Horizon Retail Construction, Racine, WI.
For those who were fortunate enough to know Donnie, they know that he was quietly brilliant. Donnie was an avid reader, loved to cook, grill, smoke meats, and collect cast iron. He enjoyed NASCAR, Sprint car racing, and was a Star Wars enthusiast to the very end. “Pops” holds a special place in the hearts of his many grandchildren, all of who will love him “to the Death Star and back.”
Always taking the long way, Donnie and Jan found many adventures together on the road and especially loved their time together in Hawaii. Donnie was a simple man with simple requests, one of which was that Jan “hold him forever” and it was with so much peace that he died in her arms.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jan; children, Heather (Jamie Graham) Watsabaugh, T.J. (Nancy) Cairns, Katie (Adam) Ranes, Meggie (Ricky) Cole; grandchildren, Shaleigh (Tyler), Kylie (Duane), Callie, Brody, Prestyn, Evan, Brylie, Ellery, Sadie, and Aven; great-grandchild, Brantlee; mother, LaVonne Bolin; siblings, Lonna Kaster and Dennie (Susan) Bolin; brother-in-law, Gary (Alice) Powers; special aunts Dorene (Terry) Shaw and Darlene Douglas, and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be missed by his lifelong friends and mentors Gordon and Shirley Massman.
Donnie was preceded in death by his father Donald Bolin and his parents-in law Charles and Vivian Powers.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Izaak Walton League (Ankeny Chapter) or Hospice of Central Iowa. Condolences may be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com

Jan,
There are no words to express how heart broken I am for you, losing the love of your life. Lean on the Lord and he will not let you fall. I know the red bird outside your house was Donnie saying he was okay and at peace. You will see him again!

We may not have known Donnie as a life long friend but immediately knew he was a kind, quiet man. Our condolences to Jan and their families.
