Michael "Mike" Ogden
May 05, 2016
Michael Edward Ogden, 54, of Des Moines passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 following a tragic, work-related accident. Mike was born on September 4, 1961 in Des Moines to Becky (Van Law) and Robert Ogden.
Mike graduated from Lincoln High School in 1979. He was a dedicated and proud member of the Swing Choir, the Tennis Team and the Bowling Team during his time at Lincoln. After high school, he loyally served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. and served much of his time in Germany. Mike enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, riding his beloved Harley, “Babs”, and rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He looked forward to Tuesday nights and bowling with his buddies. Most of all Mike treasured and loved time with his girls, grandkids and his extended family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Amber (Aaron) Anderson, Brandy (Aaron Hahn) Ogden and Jordan Ogden; grandchildren (with their Papa’s nicknames for them), Camarin “Macki”, Tobias “Scooter” and Iain “Awesome”; mother, Rebecca (Jerry) Hein; siblings, Lisa Ogden, Wendy Berg, Mark (Angie) Ogden, Kristen (Lance) Rhodes and Tanya Ogden; step-mother, Donna Ogden; mother of his girls, April Ogden; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; grandparents, Ward F. & Thelma (Moran) Ogden, Donald Van Law and Ethel (Clemons) Vondran; great-grandmothers, Birdie Higgins and Mary Ellen Damerval; and numerous aunts and uncles.

I met Mike through my son, David. Mike had been mowing our lawn for about 3 years. He always had a few minutes to chat and was so excited when he got his Harley. I felt like I knew him for years. RIP, Mike and God bless all his family and friends.

I only got to be around Mike and his beautiful family a few times. And I will never forget one conversation he and I had, we was sitting around the fire and he looked at me and said, "Right there is what I live for and love with all my heart, nothing is more beautiful then those four women." He was talking about each of you girls and your mom, he was just beaming with that big bright smile. Oh and he loved his grandbabies so much. Mike was a good man and always smiling. I still can't believe he is gone.
My heart is breaking for you girls and the whole Ogden family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
R.I.P. Mike ride on with the angels my friend.

I went to school with Mike. He was a great guy. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. Then, as people do, we lost touch. I reconnected with Mike last fall. I learned that he grew up to be a man of compassion, integrity and generosity. His family was so important to him. He almost beamed when he talked about his girls. He would give the shirt off of his back to any friend in need. I am so sad that our reconnection was so recent. I would have loved to have spent more time with him. My heart breaks for Mike's family. May your memories be of comfort to you. He will be dearly missed by all.
