Lawrence Wheeler, 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola. He was born February 27, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Larry coached many years for South Des Moines Little League and was inducted into the Men’s Softball Hall of Fame. Above all, he loved golfing with his buddies and enjoyed painting, and spending time with his dogs.
Larry is survived by his children, Sheree Wheeler, Ronald Wheeler, Lisa (Jack) McNeeley, Mark Wheeler, Matt (Raynee) Wheeler, and Christine (John) Hoskins; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Diana (Ron) Veach and David (Bonnie) Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Rose Wheeler; and his loving wife, Millie.
Family will greet friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, followed by burial at Rising Sun Cemetery
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in Larry’s honor.

Larry was a great man. I was part of the card group that played once a month at his house. I really like spending time with him and laughing about the good old days. He will be miss by many

We are so sorry to hear of your loss! Larry was a wonderful caring neighbor who will be greatly missed! He was a good man always willing to help others! He touched all of my family, Layla (my granddaughter) loved to visit him! We will all miss seeing him and talking with him!
