Louie Hester (Heck) Campbell was born January 14, 1926, in Risco, Missouri, to George Walter Campbell and Eldora Bazzell Campbell. He was united in marriage to Vera Temples Campbell on January 6, 1945, with whom he spent the next 64 years until her passing. He loved hunting, driving a truck, operating heavy equipment, and building houses. In his free time, he even made several three-wheelers out of Volkswagens. He was a former employee of Hart Truckline of Dexter, Missouri, where they lived for many years before moving to Iowa. Spending time with friends and family was important to him both here and later in Apache Junction, Arizona. Heck loved country and gospel music, as well as playing his guitar, and in later years also enjoyed watching old western movies. He was a faithful member of the Nazarene church. Heck passed away June 28, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 98.

Heck was deeply loved and will be remembered by his daughter Shelba (Steve) Oberto of Altoona, Iowa, his son Larry (Linda) Campbell of Cape Canaveral, Florida; granddaughters Dina (Gene) Parker of Altoona, Iowa, Jessica Campbell of Centennial, Colorado, and Valerie Campbell of Olathe, Kansas; great-grandchildren Haley Parker, Nathan (Sienna) Parker, and Cade Parker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Campbell; parents, George and Eldora Campbell; and siblings John Campbell, Lona Mossman, Beulah Stevens, Stella Campbell, Elsie Ward, Mozuria Osborn, Ed Campbell, Gertie Glass, and Rose West.

Services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a luncheon immediately after the funeral. Burial will take place at Altoona Cemetery.
