Gary Peterson

Gary Peterson, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in Polk City, Iowa. Gary was born January 9, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Jackie (Johnson) Peterson and John Peterson.
He graduated from Valley High School in 1969. On July 1, 1972, he married his first love Cindy Wike. Gary attended Area 11 (DMACC) earning a technician degree in automotive mechanics. He was employed as a mechanic for many years before joining the family business, Peterson Pest Control. Both Gary and his son, Rick Peterson, continue operating the company started by Gary's father, John Peterson, after John retired. Gary was a man who took pleasure in the simple things in life. He enjoyed old cars, participating in car shows with his wife, building detailed model cars, washing cars and driving around in his truck all day. He also had a passion for NASCAR.
Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy, his children Wendy (Conrad) Hanson and Rick (Gigi Wong); his grandchildren Alexis Luscombe, Carson Peterson, Mia Wong, Jasmine Wong and Hannah Hanson; and his mother Jackie Peterson.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, John Peterson, and brother, Kurt Peterson.
Visitation will be 2-4 pm Saturday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, near Highland Memory Gardens 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines.
Gary was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
