Jack Lee Tyrrel
April 13, 2016
Jack Lee Tyrrel went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.
Jack was born on June 27, 1941 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Harvey and Maxine Tyrrel. He graduated from Lacy High School in 1959 and from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s of Music degree in 1963. He married the love of his life, Luane Klein, on April 9, 1963 and they were blessed with three children.
Jack started out teaching music for two years in Lisbon. They moved to Columbus Junction, Iowa where he taught music at Louisa-Muscatine Schools for 20 years. Jack then became a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent for the next 18 years. He retired in 2003 and after 40 years of living in Columbus Junction, he and Luane moved to Prairie City to be close to their children and grandchildren. He was a member of his son-in-law’s church, Trinity Baptist Church.
Jack was a man of great faith and loved teaching Sunday school. He would share the gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone who would listen. Even in the hospital when he was weak and struggling to breathe, there was not one doctor, nurse, food service personnel, etc. that he came into contact with that he didn’t proclaim his faith and witness to.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Luane; daughters, Julie (Dudley) Peterson and Nancy (Scott) Lockwood; son, Jack Lee (Becky) Tyrrel, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; and his brother, Charles (Beth) and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Kerry.
The family will greet friends Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Jack will be laid to rest at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.

An admirable, and patient Band Master!
It was my privilege to watch to Mr. Tyrrel at the U. of Iowa Stadium, during an alumni marching band half-time event. He had taught our son Doug, in high school and that day, both teacher and pupil were playing on the field. So very sorry for his passing.

I was so fortunate to have had Jack as a band teacher at Louisa-Muscatine High School. He was truly a man who loved music and loved teaching his students. What a patient and dedicated man who touched so many students lives in the years he spent at L-M. It was an honor to have had him as my teacher. My deepest sympathy and love to his family.

I taught with Jack for about 10 years in the same department. He was always so willing to help and to share. He was a great role-model for his students, for me, and for others whose lives were touched by knowing him.
