My dearest friend Sylvja,
I have been full of sorrow and sadness since I learned of your passing. But today, I'd rather celebrate our sisterhood that spanned four decades. OMGosh, we had buckets of fun in the early years and we buried all four of our parents in the latter, with lots of life in between.
I hope that Mama, Papa and Rick were all there with open arms. I choose to believe that you have peace in a glorious flower garden, surrounded by your loved ones and no longer suffering from earthly afflictions. You will always be in my heart.
Love, Diane

I enjoyed working with Sylvia and could always count on her for a smile, a laugh and help with anything. She was very proud of her home and her many flowers. She especially loved her front porch in the summer and welcomed us there often. She always asked about my family. I wish her peace and my thoughts go out to her family.

Sylvia was a special member of our small church family. Her spirit was warm, and her heart for the children in our group was obvious. We are blessed having known her. Our prayer is that her family would find peace in all things in the days ahead.

Sylvia was one of the "meitenes" (girls) I grew up with. We were childhood friends. We attended Latvian school together. We were girl scouts together. We got confirmed in the Latvian church together. Even though I moved away from Des Moines when I grew up, I would always connect with Sylvia when I went back to visit. She had such a big heart and warm, fun loving personality. Part of my childhood just died. I will miss her.

Sylvia and my sister were friends in their high school days when I met Sylvia. We remember many things about her including her bubbly fun personality. We both recently friended her on Facebook and it was nice to see her again. We are saddened but know that she is in the hands of God. Hoping your family finds peace.

I always truly enjoyed my encounters with Sylvia. Though I never worked directly with her, she was such fun to talk to at staff events. I will remember her jokes and her hugs. Sending warm thoughts and wishes to her family today.

I will always remember Sylvia's smile and how she worked with students in my classroom. Some days when I was to busy to eat she would come into my room with great fast food! :) I have a warm place in my heart for her!
