Lindsey Ann Wilson Bruinekool, 45, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 6, 2016 at her home in West Des Moines, IA. Services will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1105 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines, IA on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 with visitation prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Private family burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery in Marshalltown, IA.
Lindsey, daughter of David and Nancy Wilson was born August 18, 1970 in Iowa City. She was educated in Marshalltown and during those years, took ballet lessons eventually dancing on the stage at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in Ames and the Civic Center in Des Moines. Lindsey was baptized on October 25, 1970 and confirmed on April 28, 1985 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. During high school she was a cheerleader and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1988. Lindsey attended Marshalltown Community College for one year before transferring to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1993. She worked at Farm Bureau for many years and most recently Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. Lindsey was an active member of her church and enjoyed summers at Clear Lake with family and friends. She loved playing the piano, going to the gym, and the special times with her friends.
On October 20, 2012 she married Christopher Bruinekool of West Des Moines, IA. He was the love of her life and they shared a strong faith journey. They enjoyed working out at the gym together, taking walks, traveling, and challenging each other with board games.
Lindsey touched many lives with her positive attitude and smile. She was a very caring, loving person and would do anything for a friend in need. She had a strong faith and after her accident and several months in the hospital, her determination, perseverance, motivation, and courage was an inspiration to others. The community and her classmates were amazed and proud of her accomplishments; giving her a standing ovation as she walked across the stage to receive her high school diploma. With God’s help and the many prayers from those who knew her, she was a special miracle. Lindsey will be missed dearly by many.
Lindsey is survived by her husband Chris; her parents, David and Nancy Wilson; her brother, Jeffrey Wilson of Des Moines; and her sister, Angela (James) Eilders and their children, Katelyn, Nicholas and Elizabeth all of Robins, IA; her aunt and uncle, Ardith and Phil Simms of Bettendorf, IA; her three cousins and their children; Chris’ parents, Robert and Maxine Bruinekool; Chris’ brother, Matt (Sandra) and their children Alex and Tyler of West Des Moines. After returning home from traveling, I began reviewing newspapers saved, and read the very sad news of Lindsey's passing. She was always so positive, with a warm and beautifully accepting personality. My heart goes out to all her family and friends at this very difficult time.

I am saddened to hear about the loss of Lindsey. It sounds like she has not changed from when I knew her as a classmate at Marshalltown High School but continued to be a blessing to those around her. My thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family.

I worked with Lindsey in the nursery at Lutheran Church of Hope. Lindsey shared kindness and love with all that knew her, especially the children. She was greatly adored by many and knew no strangers. She met everyone with love and acceptance and taught all of us so much. We heard many stories about her family and she loved all of you dearly. She will be greatly missed.

I worked with Lindsey at Easter Seals Daycare. She was my assistant in the three-year-old room for a year. She was a very caring person. She came to work every day with a smile and a positive attitude. She was also a good friend that you could talk to you. We stayed in contact after she left Easter Seals. She had a great smile. She had a great determination. She had a heart of gold and love kids. She also loved Chris very much. And she would tell me stories about some of their adventures together. I will miss her smile. I will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss.

As long as I can remember, I have known Lindsey and her family. Mostly by letters and photographs, but we also met personally. Shortly after Lindsey's accident, I visited the Wilson family at Marshalltown and Clear Lake. One of my strongest memories of that time is, how optimistic and strong Lindsey was, starting a different life. Loosing wife or daughter, a sister or best friend, seems the hardest thing possible and my thoughts are with all of you.

We, the Droese Family of Bovenden, Germany, send our heartfelt condolences with our deepest sympathy. We all liked Lindsey so very much. During some trips around in Germany and to Stockholm, Sweden we had much fun. Those times echo in our memories, and Lindsey's interest in the German language, too. With love, but very sad we think of Chris, Nancy, Dave, Jeff, Angie and all family members.
