Jesse “Jim” Bowman, 79, passed away on April 5, 2016, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was born June 18, 1936, to Jess and Edith Bowman.

Jim attended Saylorville one room school and graduated from Woodside High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years. Jim worked in the construction industry and retired from the State of Iowa as a facility engineer.

Jesse started his own band, Jim Bowman and the Blue Notes, and played in other uprising groups for 40 years. He wrote and recorded many songs and was inducted into the Iowa Midwest Country Hall of Fame. He also served as Past President of the Professional Musician and Entertainers Club of Iowa. Jim had an outstanding sense of humor and loved making people laugh.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ralph Bowman, Bob Bowman, Martha Patterson, Joann Thomas, Maxine Witt, Roy Bowman, Velma Davis, Thelma Moore, and Gerold Dean; and his grandson, Allan Michael Curray. He is survived by his loving wife, Beulah Bowman; children, Elizabeth and Terry Bainter, Cheryl Thompson, Carol Bowman, Randy McIntosh, and Shawneen (Scott) Wilson; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Jane Thomas; sister, Mary Blile; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 3100 Easton Blvd in Des Moines, with visitation beginning one hour prior to service time. Burial will be held at Berwick Cemetery following the service.
