James “Jimmy” Leo, Sr. 83, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.
Jimmy was born May 3, 1932 in Des Moines to Pete and Mary (Fazio) Leo. He worked as a cobbler with his brothers and later retired from the City of Des Moines after 36 years of service. Jimmy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Society of Italian Americans. He enjoyed playing pitch and cribbage and watching westerns with his beloved dog, Lucy. He will be fondly remembered by his family as “Johnny on the Spot” whenever anyone needed a helping hand.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Geraldine; children, Linda Kelley, Steve Watts, Jimmy John Leo, Jr. and Charlie Leo; grandchildren, Cory Watts, Brian Watts, Adam Kelley, Danielle Kelley, Kylee Leo, Jacob Leo, Anthony Leo and Mackenzie Leo; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Pete Leo; sister, Mary DeFazio; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vincenza Marasco and Beatrice Caligiuri; and his brothers, Sam, Frank, Charles, Anthony and Joseph Leo.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9th at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation of a charity or to the donor’s choice.

Jimmy always made me feel like part of the oil gang , even though I didn't have a clue for the first 2 years. His smile will be missed ! My prayers are with his family

Condolence's to Jimmy's family. Jimmy and I worked together at Public Works, and he was always good to me and never failed to say hello or stop and tell me something that usually cracked me up. Great Guy.
