Christina “Tina” (Galvan) Gilliland
Des Moines
Christina “Tina” Gilliland, 55, was born August 17, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
Christina worked for Reliable Roofing as Secretary-Treasurer, and was known to be the “glue” that kept the office running smoothly. She was a devoted member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Des Moines. Christina was the true definition of creative, you could always find her either scrap booking or journaling, and she loved sharing these gifts with her loved ones. She was incredibly artistic being a self-taught graphic designer, creating greeting cards and designing rubber stamps. She leaves a legacy of selflessness, generosity, compassion and grace. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Don Gilliland; children, Steven Hodges and Emily Gilliland; parents, Thomas Sr., and Linda Cross; siblings, Archie Cross, Richard (Beth) Cross, Thomas (Melinda) Cross, Jr., and Lynnette (Mike) Bullock; long-time dear friend, Sandy (Kevin) Baker; close friends, Lee Murphy and Suzanne Dean; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and an enormous amount of beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Crespin and Emily Galvan.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 also, at the funeral home. Private family burial will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at Glendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the donor’s choice in memory of Christina.
