Luke Anderson
March 27, 2016
Luke Thomas Anderson, 16, of Waukee, Iowa, died at his home on March 27, 2016. He was the beloved son of Andrew and Karen Anderson and brother of Meghan Anderson.
He was born on June 17, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived his entire life in Des Moines, Clive and Waukee. He loved his community and saw no good reason to travel, except for a good snowboarding trip to the Colorado Rockies. He felt that we had all that was needed right here in the metro and planned to live his life here.
Luke attended the Waukee Schools for most of his life and attended high school at Dowling Catholic High School and Waukee High School. He had many dear friends, good teachers and supportive coaches from both schools, and he considered himself a Warrior and a Maroon.
Luke was a young man of many passions and had a great sense of humor. He was in constant motion. He loved his family, his pets Otis and Kiki, his Band of Brothers (a/k/a the “broke boys”), his many friends and his orange Ford Mustang, “Veronica.” He loved the outdoors where he could snowboard, wakeboard, ride his dirt bike and go “creekin” in the streams near his home. He played baseball, football and basketball with several teams during his life and learned many lessons from his coaches and teammates. Luke was always a champion of the underdog from his earliest days. He would want all his family, friends and his Band of Brothers to know that they were the light of his life and helped him along his way. He loved them very much and would want them to live a full life of activity and laughter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents Andrew and Karen Anderson, his sister Meghan Anderson, both sets of grandparents Albert and Marilyn Anderson of Decorah, Iowa and Harold and Nancy Staves of Tucson, Arizona, his uncles and aunts Eric and Alex Anderson of Virginia, Tom Staves of Arizona, Jason Staves of Dubuque, and Pam Bingham of Arizona, and many extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 5 to 7 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway at 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 1, at 11 am at Lutheran Church of Hope at 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines. A lunch will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial gifts to Waukee YMCA Scholarship Fund or the Waukee Community School Foundation.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of a relative I've never met. However, I met Luke's grandparents, Harold and Nancy Staves, several years ago when they were in Rock Island, Illinois. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Dear Andersons, words cannot say how we feel about your loss. Luke was a great friend of our grandson Carter Frey. He talked about him all the time, and they had so many good times together. Carter is honored to be a part of the Pallbearers, he is very sad, but knows he needs to be there for you. Thank you for helping him through all of this sadness and hurt. We are never prepared for the loss of a loved one, and don't understand the whys. We only need to believe and know he is in God's hands and God will heal him and take care of him, until you meet again. Thoughts and Prayers and take care of each other.

I write to you on behalf of the entire Feistner family with a sincere wish to extend our deepest expression of sympathy /condolences at the loss of Lucas' life.
I am intellectually alongside or "with" the beautiful expression logged on 3/31/2016 also at 8:51 AM by Gideon & the Hicks family, Andy. May He bring you strength & fortitude continually.
We certainly hope that the absolute power of God's love will wrap your family in comfort as you follow the Lord in prayer within the community. Dowling Catholic H.S. is a tremendous experience & gift of 'forever' life in your celebrations. Pride & purity.
We did not know Luke, but have also suffered loss alongside various friends at this time. It is never easy to touch on these dear-to-our-heart matters, nor have a child or parent pass before one.
We have some pains continually in acceptance of our gift of life & I additionally suffered an accident of my own on Easter Sunday this year.
My heart bleeds with our Metro area & for you during this time.
His grace now & always,
Lori Ann
