Mimie Ann Swanson

Mimie Swanson, 47, passed away March 28, 2016, surrounded by her family at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 13, 1968, in Rochester, Minnesota, the daughter of Melvin Mitchell and Mary Wickersham.
Mimie worked at Karl Performance as a purchasing and data entry clerk for many years. During race season she could be found at the local racetracks and Iowa Speedway supporting her passion for racing. She was an avid fan of NASCAR and never denied that Dale Jr. was her first love. Mimie also enjoyed motorcycle rides, shopping, Mexican food and margaritas. Above all else, she treasured her family and cherished their time together. She loved attending her children’s various activities and sporting events, and spoiling her grandbabies as much as possible. Mimie was loved by many and will be remembered for her smile and contagious laugh.
Mimie is survived by her husband, Mark; mother, Mary Wickersham; father, Melvin (Candy) Mitchell; children, Kiresa Howell (Steven Schoonover), Kendall Howell (Velia Floyd), Kirstin Howell, Keegan Howell, and Chianna Swanson; grandchildren, Serenity, Kayden, Cullen, Anstin, and Karsen; siblings, Jim (Sonya) Wickersham, Tracy Root, Charlene Davila, Tressa (Craig) Arterburn, Leland (Jenny) Mitchell, Gail (Brian) Webb, Larry Jr. (Michelle) Wickersham, Missie (Richard) Arndt, and Kelly (Jason) Merfeld; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Larry Wickersham.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
