Helen Hamilton
March 24, 2016
Helen Gertrude Hamilton, 96, was born February 7, 1920, daughter of Byron T. Houston and Gertrude (Sinclair) Houston. She passed away March 24, 2016 of natural causes at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Helen was a devoted housewife and mother, enjoyed playing cards with friends, her poodles, dancing with husband Earl and seldom missed a Lawrence Welk program in later years. While her husband was away during WWII, she raised her daughter to age 2 alone, then thankfully Earl returned from the war. They had a son five years later. She never missed a little league baseball game or any of our activities. There was always a good meal on the table and a sparkling clean home. Couldn’t ask for better, with lots of love and laughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Madonna (Gary) Hauge; son, Craig (Frances) Hamilton; six grandchildren, Debbie, Todd, Gretchen, Erik, Lindsey and Michele; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was so proud of all her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and remained in the background cheering us all on.
She was preceded in death by her parents (she lost her mother at age 5); her brother, Joe Houston; and husband, Earl F. Hamilton.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date when family can all gather together. She wished any memorials to be directed to the Animal Rescue League.

She was a very lovely lady with a lot of class, and it showed even in her penmanship.
Watching DWTS won't be the same without her.
Our sympathies,
