Cathy Jean Cornell, 45 passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, March 13, 2016.
Cathy was born in Tucson, AZ on September 20, 1970, to Linda (William) Smith and Robert (Jennifer) Gonzales. Cathy met the love of her life, Anthony Cornell of Fairfield, IA and was married April 4, 1998.
Cathy was a loving wife, mother, and dedicated grandmother. She worked as a phlebotomist for 17 years at Broadlawns and Mercy Hospital. Cathy loved helping people, painting, reading, and spending time with family.
Cathy will be greatly missed by all. She was a very special lady and was blessed with many friends who were special to her.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Anthony Cornell; son, Christopher Hanson; daughters, Danyele (Terrance) Henson and Nycole (Joe) Henson; grandchildren, Audrey Hanson, Hayden and Ryder Henson; sister, Tina (William) Mathews; nieces, Karrie (Ceeton) Pfantz and children and Dairrian (Cameron) Mathews; and nephew, Michael (Chelsea) Mathews and children.
Cathy was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Smith and son, Dustin Taylor.
A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hamilton’s to help alleviate funeral expenses.

Aunt Cathy, you were such a crazy and wild thing. We had so many fun and great conversations together. I will never forget them. I am happy you are at peace and I know you were ready to be with Grandma and Dustin again. Remember I will always love you. Fly high beautiful, and rest easy. I cannot believe my wild, crazy, funny, Cathy Jean ween has left me behind. My baby sister grew her wings. Heaven has another angel. You are finally with Mimi. You crazy girls have fun and watch over us until we meet again. Rest in peace Cathy. I love you and I will so greatly miss you. My very deepest sympathy go out to tony and my dear nephew, Christopher. I would give anything for a change of circumstance.
