Pamela Kay "Pam" Mithelman, 70, passed away March 5th after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Pam was born May 13, 1945 in Des Moines, IA, the oldest daughter of Bliss and Margaret Routh. When she was eight years old her family moved to Ames. She graduated from Ames High School in 1963.

She attended Simpson College where she graduated in 1967. She was a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. While at Simpson she met the love of her life, Larry Mithelman. They were married June 18, 1966. After graduating from Simpson they moved to Altoona, IA where she began teaching. While living in Altoona they welcomed their son Todd in 1968 and daughter Stacey in 1973. In 1995 they moved to Johnston, IA.

Pam and Larry were charter members of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona, where she was president of the church council, participated in the church choir, active in small group Bible studies and served on many committees through the years which continued to strengthen her faith. She had a deep and personal faith in God as her Lord and Savior.

The greatest loves of her life were her family. Her special moments with her grandchildren included tea parties, sleepovers, Christmas cookie baking, and the annual back to school clothes shopping trips. Their home in Okoboji was a very special place where her family enjoyed boating, 4th of July and all kinds of water sports. They loved entertaining many friends during summers at the lake.

She is survived by her loving husband Larry, son Todd (Colette) of Johnston, daughter Stacey Brown (Nedd) of Bondurant, grandchildren Taylor, Courtney, and Carson Mithelman, and Theo Brown, her mother Margaret Routh, sisters Sandy Boeshart (Larry), of Kansas City, Deb Hunter (Lane), of Aurora, IL, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 3 great-nieces, 5 great- nephews, and many dear friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her father Bliss Routh.

Visitation will be at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Altoona, Tuesday March 8th from 4-7 pm. A Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday March 9th at 11am, also at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Altoona.

Memorials may be given to Lutheran Church of the Cross for the kitchen fund or to Taylor House Hospice.
