Viola "Jean" Stodden

Viola Jean Stodden, 80, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at The Life Center.

Jean was born July 1, 1935 in Redfield, Iowa to Roy and Louisa Beane. She was a graduate of Redfield High School and AIB College of Business. Jean had worked for Dial Finance, Pester Derby and eventually retired from Meredith Corporation in 1992. She was very devoted to her faith and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Jean was a great cook and loved preparing for family gatherings. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, taking walks and genealogy.

Jean is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Stodden; sons, David Stodden and Steve Stodden; daughters, Vicki (Jim) Stumme and Diane (Gary) Stumme; grandchildren, Jennifer Stumme, Jessica (Gillian Howard) Stumme, Megan (Cody Sweaton) Stodden, Tyler Stodden and Celia Stodden; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Delanie Sweaton; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; many siblings; and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Stodden.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Jean will be laid to rest at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with the rosary to begin at 8:00 p.m.
