Wendell A. Foutz

Wendell Allen Foutz was born March 13, 1931 in Guide Rock, NE, the son of Jacob and Thelma (Littrel) Foutz. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, February 29, 2016 at the age of 84.
Wendell honorably served his country in the United States Navy and then the Marines for five years during the Korean War. He worked for the United States Post Office for 30 years, prior to his retirement in 1986. He most recently worked for Iowa Events Center for 30 years. He was a Mason and a member of Southgate Lodge. He enjoyed having coffee with the guys at HyVee and a treasured memory was his trip to Washington D.C. for the Korean Veterans’ Anniversary
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna; sons, Robert Allen, James Lee, Donald Eugene, and Jonathan Alexander; grandchildren, RJ and Maggie Lancaster, Jamie and Jesse Sziber, and many others; and great-grandchildren, Dustin Lancaster and many others.
Wendell was preceded in death by his brother, Gary; sister, Norma Jean Benker; and his parents.
There will be a visitation held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Wendell.

I worked with Wendell at the Main Post Office. Very nice person and had a nice smile. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Wendell was a terrific man and a joy to work with. Always enjoyed visiting with Wendell at HyVee on Saturday mornings for breakfast. The psalmist writes in Psalm 116: 15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord are the death of His godly ones." Praying God's comfort upon your family as you move through the grieving process...

Wendell was a great man and friend to our family. You couldn't ask for a better man. Always helpful to us and always so kind. He will be missed and always loved by us.
