Barbara “Barb” Gwen Thomsen, 79, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Barb was born October 29, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa to Clifford and Violet (Rold) Thomsen. She graduated from high school and completed two years of Nursing College at DMACC. She was a Private Duty LPN working primarily through a nursing service. She worked in every Des Moines hospital, except the VA, and most nursing homes in the Des Moines area, as well as a few in surrounding communities. She last worked at New Oaks Nursing Home before retiring to care for her mother at home.
She is survived by her son, David (Deb) Thomsen of Norwalk, Iowa; sons, Chad (Vicky) Faux, Pat Faux, and Matt Thiel, all of Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Kris Thomsen of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Deanne (Mike) Finneran of Jacksonville, Florida; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
According to Barb’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time.

My thoughts and prayers have been with Barb before and through out her being in the hospital. My deepest sympathy goes out to Barb's family and to Wayne her dearest friend. I know it was a shock to all how little time you had with her once the doctor gave his diagnosis. I hope you are comforted by the fact she went fast and didn't suffer long.
I learned a lot from Barb, she helped me with crocheting, she shared her projects with me. It always meant a lot. Even though I moved away I kept in touch with Barb and glad I did. I loved her and will keep you all in my prayers.
