David Rivas

David Albert Rivas, 71, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016.
He was born May 15, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa to Lupe and Lucy (Chia) Rivas. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and worked for the City of Des Moines for 30 years, holding a supervisory position with the Streets Department. He was a founding member of Hispanic Legion Post 731, also serving as Commander.
David is survived by his proud children: sons, Santos (Carrie) Rivas and Chivas Rivas; daughters, Robin Duran and Gina Rivas; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Dominic (Leslie), Henry (Linda), Tony (Carol), Tim, and Christopher; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, son, Jake, and granddaughter, Baby Girl.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 29th at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1st, at Our Lady of the Americas, 1271 E 9th St. Des Moines. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
