Martha Bower

Martha Bower, 88, was born July 1, 1927, in Des Moines. She passed away at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab on February 23, 2016.

Martha worked for over 30 years in food service for the Des Moines Public Schools. She was a lifelong member of Indianola Heights Christian Church where she regularly attended, worked and volunteered her time whenever needed. Martha enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Southside Senior Center. Most of all, Martha loved spending time with her family, fishing with her grandchildren and brothers, going on picnics and family gatherings.

Martha is survived by her children, Ricky Bower, Danny Bower and Julie Compiano (Brian Powell); son-in-law, Andy Compiano; grandchildren, Sam, Nick and Chris Compiano; siblings, Harold (Carol) Pierce and Ralph (JoAnn) Pierce. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rodney; siblings, Maxine Pierce, Laverne Pierce, George Pierce and Albert Pierce.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 29, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening from 5 to 7p.m. also at the funeral home.
